Other Medicines
Just about any drug can hurt a hound—especially when eaten in quantity. Dogs can chew open childproof bottles, gnaw on tubes of ointment, and knock pills off of counters, so keep all medications—your dog's as well as your own—well out of reach. Heart medications, antidepressants, and Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) are just a few of the drugs that can cause problems. Less common but extremely toxic to dogs are Efudex (fluorouracil) and Dovonex (calcipotriene), two prescription skin creams, and isoniazid, an oral medication for tuberculosis. If you suspect your dog has gotten into any medication, even one that was prescribed for him, call your vet right away.
