| Past the main run, towards the river, is a second run for small dogs. A stone's throw from Gracie Mansion, this smaller run has a superb view of the East River and the 59th street bridge. Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:15 to 1:15 the run is reserved for residents of the nearby ASPCA shelter. Visit the Carl Schurz Park Association web site at www.carlschurzparknyc.org.

| Not so much private as it is unofficial, this sparse run, according to one member, is "the best kept secret around." And the dog owners who come here would like to keep it that way. Still, in our view, it's hard to think of this spot as much more than a strip of concrete. |
